# Acceptable use

Because Macropay acts as your Merchant of Record (MoR), we become the legal
seller of every transaction — which means we, not you, carry the tax,
compliance, and chargeback liability for what gets sold. That arrangement only
works if the catalog stays inside a tight band: **digital products and software
that we can either fulfil for you or that your service grants instantly through
our API.** Anything physical, anything that depends on a human delivering a
service, and anything illegal, deceptive, abusive, or high-risk falls outside
what we can resell on your behalf.

This page is the practical guide to that band — what's in, what's out, and what
gets a closer look. When in doubt, [talk to us first](/support); pre-clearing an
edge case is far cheaper than a frozen account later.

## The fulfilment test

A product is a candidate for Macropay if it passes two checks at once:

<Steps>
  <Step title="It can be fulfilled digitally and immediately">
    Either **we fulfil it for you** — license keys, file downloads, GitHub repo
    access, Discord invites, or other private links (a gated YouTube playlist,
    say) — **or your app grants access through our API** the moment a one-time
    purchase or subscription succeeds.
  </Step>

  <Step title="You'd be proud to show it in public">
    Nothing illegal, unfair, deceptive, abusive, harmful, or shady. If you'd
    hesitate to put it on your homepage, we'll hesitate to resell it.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Pass both and you're almost certainly fine. Fail either and read on.

## Clearly acceptable

| Category                     | Examples                                                                                 |
| ---------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Software & SaaS** | Web apps, desktop tools, CLIs, plugins, APIs |
| **Digital downloads** | Templates, eBooks, PDFs, source code, icons, fonts, design assets, photos, video, audio |
| **Premium content & access** | Subscriber-only courses, gated communities, Discord servers, private GitHub repositories |

These map cleanly onto Macropay benefits — license keys, file downloads, Discord
and GitHub access, prepaid credits — so we can certify delivery and stand behind
the sale as MoR.

<Tip>
  **AI products are first-class here.** If you bill an agent or model by usage,
  activity, or outcome — metered tokens through the AI proxy, or signals posted to
  `POST /v1/signals` — that's a digital, API-fulfilled product and fits squarely
  inside acceptable use.
</Tip>

## Prohibited

<Note>
  **This list is not exhaustive.** We may add to it at any time, and we can place
  an account under review or suspend it whenever usage looks deceptive,
  fraudulent, high-risk, or simply low-quality for consumers — anything that drives
  refunds and chargebacks back onto us as the seller of record.
</Note>

### Physical, human, or non-instant fulfilment

* **Physical goods of any kind** — including SaaS that ships or requires physical
  delivery.
* **Human services** — consulting, marketing, design, web development, support,
  and the like.
* **Marketplaces** — reselling other people's products or services for an upfront
  fee or revenue share.
* **Donations & charity** where price exceeds product value, or where there's no
  exchange at all (a pure money transfer). Open-source maintainers running
  sponsorships are an exception — reach out.

### Illegal, regulated, or restricted by our partners

* **Illegal or age-restricted goods** — drugs, alcohol, tobacco, vaping.
* Anything that **violates the law** where your business operates or sells.
* Anything that **breaks payment-network or processor rules** — e.g. the
  [card-network restricted-business list](https://stripe.com/en-se/legal/restricted-businesses).
* **Financial services** — facilitating transactions, investments, or balances
  for customers.
* **Financial trading & advisory** — trading bots, brokerages, signal or insights
  platforms, investment advice, wealth-management or tax-guidance content.
* **Regulated products & services**, **counterfeit goods**, and **trademark
  violations**.
* **Gambling & betting** — including lootboxes, mystery boxes, and random pack
  openings.
* **Medical claims** — pharmaceuticals, weight-loss, muscle-building.
* **Telecom & eSIM**, **IPTV** (including software that delivers it), and **travel
  services** — reservations, travel clubs, timeshares.

### Adult content

* Adult services or content, **including by AI or proxy** — AI companions,
  OnlyFans-adjacent services, and explicit or NSFW AI-generated content.

### Deceptive, abusive, or trust-eroding

* **Reselling or distributing customer data** to third parties for any reason
  (disclosed service providers are fine).
* **Fake testimonials, reviews, social proof,** or review-inflation platforms.
* **"Get rich" schemes** and content.
* **Pseudo-science** — clairvoyance, horoscopes, fortune-telling.
* **Spam & unsolicited marketing tooling**, including services that:
  * generate, scrape, or sell leads,
  * send bulk SMS/WhatsApp,
  * automate cold outreach,
  * mass-generate and submit content across sites.
* **Cloaking services** that bypass IP bans, API rate limits, and similar.
* Anything that **threatens the reputation** of Macropay, our partners, or our
  payment providers, or carries significant risk of refunds, chargebacks, fines,
  or harm.
* Products or services **used by, intended for, or marketed to minors**.

### Software-integrity abuse

* **Cheating tools** — macros, cheat codes, hacks, or modifications that grant an
  unfair advantage.
* **License reselling** — selling or transferring software licenses at reduced
  prices or without authorization.
* **Circumvention services** that bypass or manipulate another vendor's rules,
  mechanics, or pricing.
* **Viruses & spyware**, **watermark removal**, and **third-party downloaders**
  (YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, and so on).

### Low quality or no rights

* **Low-quality output** — AI-spun eBooks, four pages sold for \$50, rushed or
  bug-ridden sites, or anything we judge to have a low trust score.
* **NFTs & crypto assets**, **job boards**, and **directories** sold purely as ad
  placement.
* Anything you **don't own the IP for** or lack a license to resell.

## Restricted — case by case

These can be approved, but they clear a higher bar on quality, execution, trust,
and compliance. Expect a closer review.

* Directories & boards
* Marketing services
* Pre-orders & paid waitlists
* Ticket sales
* eBooks

## FAQ

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Why do directories and boards get a closer look?">
    Many sell premium placement — effectively advertising — without meeting the
    compliance bar for ads, and some exist only to sell placement. We review to
    separate genuine listings from disguised ad inventory.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Why are marketing services restricted?">
    Too many lean on sketchy tactics and unsolicited mass outreach. There's no
    shortcut to sales beyond a genuinely good product. We're happy to support
    marketing services that play the long game rather than the spam game.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I sell pre-orders or paid waitlists to validate demand?">
    Generally no. As your Merchant of Record, it's a high-risk category: a seller
    could withdraw funds and never deliver, leaving consumers to demand refunds
    or dispute the charge against us months later.

    We can make exceptions for developers with a proven track record — but in
    those cases we adapt the payout flow to **withhold funds until fulfilment is
    verified.**
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Why no marketplaces or human services?">
    We'd like to change this norm among Merchants of Record over time, but both
    carry compliance and risk challenges we can't yet absorb. When fulfilment
    isn't digital, isn't immediate, and isn't between parties we know, we can't
    meet our compliance requirements or reliably defend against disputes.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Why no OnlyFans-adjacent services?">
    The lines between the service and the (often adult) content on the other end
    are blurry, and we've seen fraudulent and deceptive behavior in the category.
    We're simply not comfortable being the Merchant of Record for it.
